Ages 11–13 (6th Grade – 8th Grade)
Ready. Set. Battle.
Robot Wars: JavaScript Coding and Robotics Camp is the next step for students who are ready to be pushed further. This is where block coding ends and text-based programming begins. Students spend the week learning to write JavaScript in MakeCode, building and programming VEX IQ robots, and preparing for a head-to-head battle competition on the final day.
Prerequisite: Students should be comfortable working in teams and have a foundational understanding of coding concepts including loops, variables, if/then statements, and basic robot programming. If you have any questions, please reach out.
Morning Coding
In Robot Wars, students make the leap from block-based coding to writing JavaScript in Microsoft MakeCode. Over the course of the week students design and build their first custom JavaScript project from the ground up. By Friday every student walks away with a project that is entirely their own, written in real code and built to reflect their own creative ideas.
Afternoon Robotics
Using VEX IQ robots, teams of students work together to build and develop their very own battle bot. Over five days students build and program a competition-ready robot, design and test custom attachments, tackle open-ended engineering challenges, and develop a competition strategy, all leading up to Friday's showcase, which features a lineup of head-to-head competitions including Sumo-style battles, obstacle course races, and more.
The Love to Code Academy Difference
At Love to Code Academy, we believe the best learning happens when students are challenged, supported, and in an environment where who they are becoming matters just as much as what they are building. That is why every session is led directly by our in-house software developers and mechanical engineers, bringing real-world professional experience into the room and giving students an authentic look at what a career in tech actually looks like.
Built into every day are character connection activities and community breaks where students step away from their screens, take on building challenges, collaborate, and get to know the people around them.
At Love to Code Academy, we grow kids, not just coders. We are not just building game developers and engineers this week. We are building confident, persistent, and collaborative students who know how to show up, work hard, and lift the people around them.
